Exclusive Tips for Making Green Grape Handmade Soap
Using fresh fruit juice in cold process soap requires extra care, as the sugars in the fruit can react violently with sodium hydroxide. The following tips will ensure a safe and smooth process:
Frozen Grape Juice: After juicing fresh green grapes, pour the juice into an ice cube tray and freeze it. This effectively absorbs the immense heat generated when the sodium hydroxide dissolves, preventing the juice from scorching.
The Ice Bath Method: While dissolving the sodium hydroxide, place the container with the frozen grape cubes into a larger bowl of ice water to continuously cool the mixture.
Detailed Cold Process Fruit Soap Making Process
Step 1: Safety Preparation & Material Weighing
Put on all your safety gear.
Accurately weigh all ingredients and set them aside. Have your fresh green grape juice ready and frozen.
Step 2: Making the Lye Solution (Critical Step)
Place the frozen green grape juice cubes in a heat-resistant container, then place the container in an ice bath.
Slowly and in small amounts, add the sodium hydroxide to the frozen grape cubes while stirring constantly. The juice's color might darken, which is normal.
Continue stirring until the sodium hydroxide is completely dissolved. Use a thermometer to ensure the temperature drops below 40°C.
Step 3: Melting the Oils
Place the coconut oil and palm oil in a stainless steel pot and heat them until they are completely melted.
Add the olive oil and mix well.
Let the oil temperature cool to around 45°C so it's close to the lye solution's temperature.
Step 4: Mixing & Stirring (Saponification)
Slowly pour the lye solution into the oils and immediately begin stirring with a stick blender.
Continue stirring until the mixture reaches "Trace" (T-P-O) state—the mixture thickens, and a dropped trail leaves a mark on the surface.
Step 5: Adding Plant Extracts & Pouring
When the soap reaches a light "Trace," add the grapeseed oil and grapefruit essential oil, and mix thoroughly.
Pour the soap mixture into the mold, gently tapping it to remove any air bubbles.
Cover the mold with plastic wrap, then wrap it in a towel to insulate it.
Step 6: Unmolding & Curing
Wait 24 to 48 hours. Once the soap has hardened, you can unmold it.
Cut the soap into bars and let them cure in a cool, well-ventilated area for 4 to 6 weeks. During this time, the soap will continue to harden, and its pH level will become more gentle.
Congratulations! You have successfully made a natural, gentle, and fragrant green grape handmade soap! Enjoy the nourishment and care it brings to your skin.
